We left Gulfport on a typically sunny day and enjoyed a stop along the Gulf of Mexico.

As we headed west, the weather did clear up, and I saw my first glimpse of the bayou and Louisiana fishing communities, with much of the housing on stilts—and also an indication that Mardi Gras was approaching.
